Set in the Star Wars galaxy soon after the fall of the Galactic Empire, The Mandalorian and Grogu follows legendary Mandalorian warrior Din Djarin and his Force-sensitive apprentice Grogu as they navigate a galaxy still reeling from decades of war. The fledgling New Republic enlists the pair to help suppress scattered Imperial warlords threatening the fragile peace. Together, they embark on a sprawling adventure filled with battles against remnant forces, unexpected alliances, and dangerous missions that push Grogu farther into his role as one of the most significant Force practitioners in the galaxy.
Featuring appearances by familiar faces and new allies, including a hardened New Republic leader Colonel Ward played by Sigourney Weaver, Jabba the Hutt's son Rotta the Hutt voiced by Jeremy Allen White, and an Ardennian Fry Cook voiced by Martin Scorsese, the movie bridges the gap between the beloved Disney+ series and a full-scale cinematic epic.
For longtime fans, this movie lands exactly where it needs to: it expands the The Mandalorian saga into a grander arena while staying faithful to its core relationship and themes. Newcomers may find the lack of plot exposition in trailers confusing, but the promise of a classic Star Wars adventure, replete with action, mythology, and emotional moments, is undeniably high. My first thought between this trailer, and the Super Bowl teaser, is that we are returning to George Lucas's origin for Star Wars, the old Flash Gordon serials. When you break it down, it looks fun, action packed, and a classic battle of good versus evil. I cannot wait to see a Star Wars film in theaters! It's been too long.
The Mandalorian and Grogu is set to be released on May 22, 2026.
