"Power attracts the corruptible. Suspect any who seek it." - Frank Herbert
Just to list a few of the insane amount of projects Taylor Sheridan is working on: six Yellowstone spinoffs including 1883, 1923, and in development, 1944, The Madison, Y: Marshals, and another tentatively titled Dutton Ranch. He also helped create Landman, Tulsa King, Lioness, and the reason you’re here, Mayor of Kingstown. I think the most amazing aspect of so many projects in various stages of production is that most if not all are at least somewhat decent. My personal favorites are Lioness, Tulsa King, Landman, and Mayor of Kingstown. Lioness is giving the rest a run for their money as my favorite of the bunch, but right now I’d have to say Mayor is in the top spot.
I talked about this in my articles on The Terminal List: Dark Wolf recaps but I’m a sucker for a good “dad show.” And as bleak and hopeless as Mayor of Kingstown is, it is still very much a “dad show.”

And just for clarification for those who didn’t read my explanation of what a “dad show” is in the Dark Wolf articles:
“The characteristics often consist of action, violence, crime, and justice. Vengeance is a big theme in these kinds of series as well. They often satiate an internal desire for heroism at any cost, especially at the defiance of authority. The main character is usually an anti-hero or rather a morally conflicted hero willing to bend and or break what they hold to be true if it means their foes fall as a result.” In that regard, it’s hard to argue Mayor is anything but a “dad show.”
The IMDb description of Mayor of Kingstown is as follows:
“The McLusky family are power brokers tackling themes of systemic racism, corruption and inequality in Kingstown, Michigan, where the business of incarceration is the only thriving industry.”

If you’re reading this I assume you’ve seen the first three seasons and want an idea of what you’re in for with Season 4. So without any further delay, let us begin.

No technical spoilers, however each recap addresses what happens in each episode. If you don't want to be spoiled, watch the coinciding episode first and then come back to my recap and review.
The day is barely beginning and bad news is already there to greet the Kingstown citizens. Merle is missing. Ian is waiting for Robert to be found. He can’t be the one to call it in. He’s already under suspicion for witness tampering and attempted murder of Evelyn. All hearsay of course but with it brings prying eyes.
Mike pays a much needed visit to Bunny with a gift. Moses is there too, still pretending. The air in the room is thick with lies and betrayal. Mike and Bunny pretend right back, waiting for the time when Moses is unable to escape their grasp. Patience is a virtue.

Bunny has a new perspective on things. He died on the operating table for over a minute. That changes a person. Mike promises a reckoning.
The siren begins to ring. The news is official – Merle is off premises. He’s busy visiting old associates. His presence is rarely peaceful, this time is no exception. He makes his freedom known in brutal fashion.
Aside from Merle being MIA, Torres is nowhere to be found. But Hobbs isn’t looking.
Mike visits Lamar again. This time the charade is over. Mike knows and now Lamar knows. Lamar was busted on Moses’ territory and so Frank made the charges go away, at a cost. The price? His betrayal of Bunny. Mike gives him a chance to make things right. It’s yet another heavy price for just a chance. Lamar isn’t exactly in a position to deny anything Mike demands of him.
Merle’s first victim is found, burned alive. Mike sounds the alarm notifying everyone including Rebecca and Ian. A very real threat is coming. More a matter of time than anything. Merle is leaving dead bodies everywhere. He seems less interested in hiding and more intent on sending a message. His final point will be colossal.

Mike is tired of wondering what the plan is so he reaches out to the Aryans inside. Hobbs arranges the meeting. In an unexpected but glorious encounter, this meeting will be a shining moment for Ian’s partner, Stevie. Turns out, he’s a bit of a bad ass. Who knew? All this meeting achieves is confirming what they already knew – Merle is coming.
Moses and LJ are tired. They’ve been doing this a long time. As LJ puts it, “There’s gotta be a finish line.” He’s right about one thing, his time is just about finished, little does he know. For the first time, Moses feels the true weight of his decisions as it lies on his doorstep, bleeding to death.
Merle was at Mike’s place. He left it worse for wear. He’s getting closer to Mike. He can practically feel his stinking breath on his neck. Calling it in to Ian, Ian ups Mike’s bad news with devastation. The firebug Merle is with has struck again. This time it’s personal.

Instead of letting the son of a bitch burn alive, Mike pulls him out, demanding answers. Everything is about to change. Forever. Kyle gets the worst phone call of his life. A line is crossed and things are set in motion. It will be nothing short of horrific.

Overall thoughts on Episode 408: Belleville
From this moment on, things will not be okay. Justice will have out but at what cost? For the McClusky Brothers, what else can they possibly lose? Hobbs is more malleable as she begins to understand Mike’s purpose. Mike is hard pressed to blame anyone else for the events that have transpired. For whatever has happened and for what is to come, he will clear the way for Kyle’s ultimate vengeance against Merle. Bodies, many, are about to fall. We are now at zero hour. Hold the fuck on.
