“Corruption is a cancer that steals from the poor, eats away at governance and moral fibre and destroys trust.” - Robert Zoellick
Just to list a few of the insane amount of projects Taylor Sheridan is working on: six Yellowstone spinoffs including 1883, 1923, and in development, 1944, The Madison, Y: Marshals, and another tentatively titled Dutton Ranch. He also helped create Landman, Tulsa King, Lioness, and the reason you’re here, Mayor of Kingstown. I think the most amazing aspect of so many projects in various stages of production is that most if not all are at least somewhat decent. My personal favorites are Lioness, Tulsa King, Landman, and Mayor of Kingstown. Lioness is giving the rest a run for their money as my favorite of the bunch, but right now I’d have to say Mayor is in the top spot.
I talked about this in my articles on The Terminal List: Dark Wolf recaps but I’m a sucker for a good “dad show.” And as bleak and hopeless as Mayor of Kingstown is, it is still very much a “dad show.”

And just for clarification for those who didn’t read my explanation of what a “dad show” is in the Dark Wolf articles:
“The characteristics often consist of action, violence, crime, and justice. Vengeance is a big theme in these kinds of series as well. They often satiate an internal desire for heroism at any cost, especially at the defiance of authority. The main character is usually an anti-hero or rather a morally conflicted hero willing to bend and or break what they hold to be true if it means their foes fall as a result.” In that regard, it’s hard to argue Mayor is anything but a “dad show.”
The IMDb description of Mayor of Kingstown is as follows:
“The McLusky family are power brokers tackling themes of systemic racism, corruption and inequality in Kingstown, Michigan, where the business of incarceration is the only thriving industry.”

No technical spoilers, however each recap addresses what happens in each episode. If you don't want to be spoiled, watch the coinciding episode first and then come back to my recap and review.
Merle’s manipulation of Kyle comes to a head when he finally extends his hand to Kyle officially. He must decide, join the Aryans or face unthinkable consequences. Either way it’s bad news. Kyle denies him revealing Merle’s true nature; one of violence and hate.
Mike needs Ian to hold Moses at the station while he works out his plan for getting him arrested as Hobbs requested on behalf of the cartel. Their attempt on Moses’ life isn’t helping Mike’s standing with him.
Evelyn believes Mike is somehow involved in the disappearance of her witness and she’s pissed.

In Ad seg, CO Breens loses his cool and assaults an inmate. It will have consequences on his employment and worse. His mental state seems to be cracking.
Mike speaks to Moses for the first time since the attempt on his life. As expected Moses is furious. Mike gives Moses an idea for retaliation.
Ian checks on Robert who is going stir crazy and he blames Mike and Kyle for his predicament. He says something to Ian that will force Ian’s hand resulting in permanent solutions.
Merle returns to gen-pop. He’s clearly planning something.

Ian is a youth hockey coach which is hilarious for many reasons. As he’s coaching Mike brings Ian in on his plan for Moses. Ian warns Mike that Robert is becoming unhinged, dangerously so.
Moses and his right hand man are weary of Bunny’s guy, Lamar. They know not to turn their back on him.
Mike continues to get closer to Cindy, despite her son’s best efforts. She’s losing faith in things working at the prison. It isn’t just the inmates that are hostile, it’s the guards too.
Moses makes a move against the cartel stealing a delivery of theirs. It’s more about the message than anything else. It turns out Hobbs is responsible for the safety of these deliveries and she’s rightfully worried the cartel will react harshly over their stolen property. Mike lets her know the cartel will not care who takes the fall for the lost delivery. She has people that can take the fall for her if she so chooses.

Kyle calls Tracy at her sister’s place. She misses him. She misses home. He assures her that everything will work out.
Hobbs returns home to find an unwanted visitor waiting for her. She takes Mike’s advice for the sake of her survival. Her visitor makes his intentions crystal clear. We learn that her association with the cartel is not one of mutual interest but under threat of losing her family if she doesn’t help them.
Merle carries out the first stage of his plan. He’s loose and everyone should be worried. The next part of his plan is nothing short of destruction.
Ian takes care of Robert. He always takes care of him.
Bunny wakes up. Mike lets him know what happened, what really happened. Friends who are wolves dressed in sheep’s clothing. It’s a real problem in Kingstown.

Overall thoughts on Episode 407: My Way
People’s allegiances are coming to light. Something is coming by way of Merle and it’s going to be unthinkable. Hobbs is stuck between a rock and a hard place. As with so many in Kingstown, Breens is deteriorating and it’s concerning to say the least. Moses continues his good guy act but Mike isn’t falling for any of it. Telling Evelyn that he can deliver Moses to her is a game changer for her. The price? Get. Kyle. Out. Hobbs survives another day if this happens so it’s a win win for everyone, except Moses of course. Ian is shady as hell but Robert is unstable in the way a mass shooter is mentally ill. It all makes you wonder, will Mike’s actions continue to get people killed? Death seems to follow him wherever he goes. Having seen the entire season already, without specifics, bad things are on the way for pretty much everyone.
